Celebrating a Legendary Anniversary

The recent Pokemon Presents 2025 livestream, held on February 27, commemorated the 29th anniversary of the original launch of Pokemon Red and Green in Japan. This annual event celebrates a franchise that has not only influenced video games but has also made a significant impact on global pop culture.

During the livestream, one of the first major announcements was the upcoming booster pack, which follows closely on the heels of the recent release of Space-Time Smackdown—an expansion that introduced packs based on Generation 4 Pokémon. Triumphant Light is set to energize the digital card battler with fresh content and exciting gameplay opportunities.

Card Reveals and Arceus EX Abilities

A dedicated trailer released during the livestream and also separately on the official Pokemon YouTube channel details several new cards in the expansion. Among these, Arceus EX stands out with its new defensive ability, Fabled Luster, which prevents it from being affected by any special conditions.

This versatile, colorless card is designed to fit into any deck regardless of energy type. Several other cards in the set will benefit from Arceus EX’s presence, featuring abilities that activate as long as this card remains in play. These effects include:

  • Boosting the power of their own attacks by 30
  • Reducing the opponent’s attack damage by 30
  • Inflicting 30 direct damage to the opponent’s active Pokémon
  • Lowering the energy cost of moves
  • Eliminating retreat costs entirely

Ranked PvP Battles and Enhanced Card Rarities

In addition to the card reveal trailer, the announcement heralds the return of ranked PvP battles in Pokemon TCG Pocket at the end of March. This gives players ample time to build decks that center around Arceus EX and other new cards from the Triumphant Light series.

Furthermore, a new set of single-player battles will launch alongside these updates, allowing players to test their strategies with the new cards before the reintroduction of competitive play. Also, until April 30, 2025, card packs will offer a higher chance of pulling cards of three diamond rarity or higher, adding an extra thrill to every opening.
