Kartana Ushers in a Meta Shift for Pokémon TCG Pocket
Pokémon TCG Pocket just unveiled its newest Ultra Beast, and players are buzzing. The recent Extradimensional Crisis trailer hinted at explosive changes in the PvP ladder.

Kartana Emerges as Darkrai ex’s Biggest Threat
Kartana’s Grass typing and single Energy cost make it a potent Darkrai ex counter. Its basic attack deals 40 damage at one Grass Energy—and that jumps to 60 against Darkrai ex thanks to weakness. This simple Energy requirement lets Kartana hit early and often, disrupting decks that rely on Darkrai ex’s heavy attacks.
Synergy with Grass-Based Decks
Beyond raw power, Kartana shines in Grass-type builds. It pairs seamlessly with Decidueye ex strategies, where coordinated attacks and bench setups boost consistency. Two key Trainer cards further enhance its utility:
- Leaf Cape grants +30 HP, letting Kartana survive extra hits.
- Erika heals 50 damage, keeping Kartana active through long exchanges.
When combined, these tools could permanently curb Darkrai ex’s dominance.
Guzzlord ex Threatens Giratina ex’s Supremacy
While Kartana focuses on Darkrai ex, Guzzlord ex packs an ability that targets Giratina ex’s key strength: energy acceleration on the Bench. Its Grindcore attack not only deals damage but also strips Energy from the opponent. By cutting off Giratina ex’s fuel, Guzzlord ex could force a major meta realignment.
“Energy removal on such a scale could end Giratina ex’s reign,” many players speculate. If both Ultra Beasts perform as theorized, they’ll push two of the game’s top threats aside, making room for fresh deck archetypes.
