Exciting News for Pokémon TCG Pocket: Mythical Island Expansion Launch
The highly anticipated second expansion for Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket, titled Mythical Island, is set to launch on December 17, 2024. Following its successful debut just over a month ago, players are eager for new cards to enhance their gameplay experience.
What’s New in Mythical Island?
Since its release on October 30, Pokémon TCG Pocket has captivated players by allowing them to collect cards through daily packs and engage in battles with fellow users. Currently, the game features approximately 250 collectible cards, with a variety of unique events that provide opportunities to acquire rare cards.
The upcoming Mythical Island expansion will introduce cards from the Johto region, including Mew as a new Mythical Pokémon. Players can expect to find five new EX cards and five new Trainer cards, adding up to around 80 new cards in total. Fan-favorites such as Celebi, Dedenne, Marshadow, and Liepard will also make their debut in this set.
Changes to the Game and Future Updates
Despite the influx of new cards, the existing Genetic Apex booster packs will remain available for players to explore. Unlike many mobile games that create a sense of urgency for players to spend, Pokémon TCG Pocket allows fans to continue collecting cards from the original set.
Looking ahead, the game will introduce a limited trading feature in January 2025, which will be rolled out gradually. While Pokémon TCG Pocket is free-to-play, players have the option to purchase a monthly pass for $10 to unlock an additional pack daily and can acquire PokeGold for in-game purchases, primarily for cosmetic items.

Within just three weeks of its release, Pokémon TCG Pocket generated over $120 million globally, with Japanese players leading in spending. With the launch of Mythical Island, these impressive numbers are expected to grow even further.
